The Prophet Who Slept Under a Tree

Bible Verse
“But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness... and requested for himself that he might die...”
— 1 Kings 19:4 (KJV)

Ellen G. White Quote
“Into the experience of all there come times of keen disappointment and utter discouragement... but God understands, and He still says, ‘What doest thou here, Elijah?’”
— Prophets and Kings, p. 173

Reflection
Elijah had just called fire from heaven. Bold, fearless, full of faith. But the next day? He was under a tree, asking God to end his life. Even prophets get tired.
God didn’t rebuke Elijah for his collapse. He let him sleep. Then sent an angel not with a sermon, but with bread and water.
Sometimes what we need is not a miracle, not a mission just rest, and the reminder that God is near even when we’re done.
Your exhaustion does not disqualify you. God doesn’t measure faith by how loud you pray, but by whether you’re still willing to eat the bread He provides and get up again.
God is still with you under the tree. Sometimes faith looks like sleeping, then waking up to keep going.

Closing Prayer
Lord, Thank You for meeting me in my weakness not with judgment, but with bread. Help me rest in Your care and rise again in Your strength. When I feel like giving up, whisper gently, “Eat. The journey is not over yet.” Amen.
